We are bringing back the annual Melon Ball with a twist! This year's Melon Ball will be held at Chemung Hills Golf Club and Banquet Center from 6-10 pm on August 9th as a kick-off to the Melon season.

A traditional sit-down dinner will be served. There will be a cash bar with beer, wine, and specialty cocktails! There will also be a 50/50 raffle and raffle baskets!

This one mile fun run/walk takes participants through the historic neighborhoods of Howell.

Howell Recreation and presenting sponsor ChemTrend proudly present the 48th Annual Howell Melon Run (we welcome runners, walkers, and those racing in wheelchairs and other assistive devices) on August 15, 2025, events begin at 6 PM in beautiful downtown Howell.

This year's race will feature classic events for the whole family such as the Melon Roll, The One in a Melon Mile, The Mascot Dash, and the fan favorite Howell Melon Run 5k.

Keeping Scottish tradition alive in Michigan for over 100 years! Performances include; parades and stage performances all over the region. As well as the Michigan Renaissance Festival during its Celtic themed weekends. Flint Scottish competes in pipe band competitions and highland events all over the Great Lakes area from Michigan to Ontario.

The Flint Scottish Pipe Band has the distinction of being the oldest continuously running Pipe Band in Michigan. It was founded in 1916 by Scottish Immigrants intent on preserving their Scottish Heritage through the music and dress of their homeland. The Flint Scottish Pipe Band introduces the tradition of the Highland Band to communities through performance in parades, competitions and special events!

Seating is limited and tickets will be first come first serve. You will receive a digital ticket to your email after placing your order. You do not need to print out the ticket, digital copies are accepted.

BYOB is limited to beer and wine. You must be at least 21 to consume alcohol in the studio.

Tournament Play:  double elimination

Max Entries:  two-player teams

Entry Fee: $50/team

Fun for all skill levels. This is a "Bring Your Own Bag" tournament. Each team will also receive a link to sign up on Scoreholio, this is how the tournament scheduling with be determined. There will be three rounds of Switcholio to determine rankings and divisions and then double elimination guaranteeing 5 games per team.  There will be upper and lower divisions and prizes for both.  

This year the funds raised through the CornHowell Tournament will go to the Global Scholars International Travel Scholarship.  The Global Scholars program at Howell high school is designed to equip students with skills for an increasingly interconnected world. The Global Scholars Endorsement caters to the evolving demands of global careers. This program will enable students to graduate with a special recognition that underscores their preparedness for global collaboration and cultural competency.  The scholarship will be awarded to qualifying students who desire to travel abroad as part of the quest to meet the stringent requirements of this endorsement.

  • Upper Division 

    • $250 1st place team and Trophy 

    • $150 2nd place team and Trophy

    • $100 3rd place team

  • Lower Division 

    • 1st Place Gift Card and Trophy

    • 2nd Place Gift Card and Trophy

    • 3rd Place Gift Card 

ADDITIONAL: There will be a 50/50 raffle with a winning payout of up to $500. The raffle will be drawn at 4:00 pm

NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL PERMITTED IN THE FESTIVAL TENT AREA, you will be able to purchase drinks on site.

The Livingston Arts Council invites you to come and enjoy our 18th Annual Fine Arts Show. This show is held during the Howell Melon Festival on the first floor of the Howell Opera House with all the artists present to discuss their work and answer questions.  There will be painting, jewelry, digital prints, photography and more, with all the displayed art available for purchase. We also have a kids “make-and-take” art table and a community mural for the whole family to contribute to! So come in, walk through, and find your new favorite piece of art!

The Flint Scottish Pipe Band has the distinction of being the oldest continuously running Pipe Band in Michigan. It was founded in 1916 by Scottish Immigrants intent on preserving their Scottish Heritage through the music and dress of their homeland. The Flint Scottish Pipe Band introduces the tradition of the Highland Band to communities through performance in parades, competitions and special events!

Join your Howell Carnegie Library for the following activities to celebrate Howell's 2024 Melon Festival:

  • Everyone will enjoy building, exploring, and playing with “Big Blue Blocks” on the library lawn, 10 am - 4 pm. (All ages)

  • Everyone can create a friendship bracelet while supplies last between 10am - 3pm. (Elementary age to Adult)

  • Families can capture Melonfest memories at our family-friendly pop-up photo booth with fun props. The photo booth will be open on the library lawn from 10am - 3pm. In case of poor weather, the photo booth will move to the Reference area. (All ages)

  • Participate in the last day of our Adult Coloring Contest! Pick out a coloring page on the library lawn during the event or at the Information Desk and use your preferred medium— markers, coloring pencils, and crayons are available to use while in the library. Submissions must be turned in by 4pm. 

  • Don't forget the Friends of the Howell Carnegie Library Melonfest Book Sale, Thursday, August 15 - Monday, August 20! Check our website for times.

No registration required.
